Stop guessing what you ate, what you burned, and whether any of it is working. Photograph your plate instead of searching a database, log your training, and watch both land in the same daily balance.

What's inside
The AI food scanner turns a photo of any plate into calories, protein, carbs and fat — no database to search, no portion sizes to guess at. Scan a barcode or a nutrition label for anything packaged.
Calorie and macro tracking against a daily budget worked out from your own BMR and activity level, not a one-size-fits-all figure. The food diary keeps the whole day in one place.
Workout programmes built for the kit you actually own — bodyweight, bands and dumbbells, or barbells, cables and machines. Pick a ready-made split or build your own, and log every set, rep and weight.
Weekly calorie summaries, workout streaks, achievement badges and a transformation photo gallery — progress tracking that reads as a trend rather than a verdict on today.
An AI coach that already knows your calories in and out, your active programme and your goals — so the answer is about your week, not advice you could have found anywhere.
Progress photos never leave your device. Health data from Apple Health and Health Connect stays local. Export or delete everything at any time.
Food logging
Snap a plate and the AI breaks it into calories, protein, carbs and fat. Scan the nutrition label or the barcode on anything packaged. Type it by hand, or re-log one of your own recipes when that is faster.
In and out
Active calories from your workouts, and from Apple Health or Health Connect, flow into the same daily balance alongside your resting burn. Most trackers only count what goes in.
AI Coach
Chat with a performance-first AI coach that already knows your calories in and out, your active programme, and your goals — so every answer is grounded in your real data, not generic tips.
Training
Pick a structured day from a full training programme, or build your own split from scratch.
Log sets, reps and weights as you go — and get nudged to add a little weight once a set starts to feel easy.
Finish the session and its calories land in the same daily balance as your food.

FAQ
The app is free to use, with no time limit. The food diary, manual logging, your saved recipes, barcode lookup on packaged food, workout programmes and session logging, your weight trend, weekly summaries and achievements all stay free — including after a trial ends.
Premium adds the camera, the wearable data and your lifting history: unlimited AI photo scans, the nutrition-label scanner, refining a scan by chat, steps, active energy and sleep read from Apple Health or Health Connect, per-exercise strength progression charts and the Top Lifts personal-records page. It costs $9.99/month or $59.99/year after a 14-day free trial. Nothing is charged until the trial ends, and cancelling before then costs you nothing.
Billing runs through the App Store or Google Play rather than through us, so you manage or cancel a subscription in your store account and it takes effect there immediately. See the full breakdown.
No. The fastest path is a photo — snap the plate and the AI breaks it into ingredients with estimated weights, which is the point of the thing. But it is one path of several, and none of them involve a kitchen scale unless you want one.
Scan the barcode on anything packaged and the numbers fill themselves in. Type a food name and pick from the suggestions, including foods you have logged before. Log a rough calorie figure and move on when that is honestly all you have. Meals you eat every week can be saved as recipes and re-logged in a couple of taps.
Of those, the photo scan and the label scanner are the Premium half. Barcode lookup, typing, quick calorie logs and your saved recipes are free.
It is an estimate, and we would rather say so than claim a precision no photo can support. The AI reads the plate for what it can see — which foods, and roughly how much of each — and totals the macros from that.
What it cannot see is what went in earlier: the oil something was fried in, the butter through a sauce, the sugar stirred into a drink. Anything cooked in fat is the case most worth a second look, and a dish where half the calories are hidden under a sauce is the one to correct rather than trust.
So a scan opens as an editable list rather than a verdict. Change a weight, delete an ingredient the AI invented, add one it missed, or just say that was half a portion in the chat and watch the numbers follow. If a photo cannot be read at all, the app says so and hands you the manual form instead of guessing at it.
Used that way it is good at the thing that actually matters: staying consistent from day to day, and telling a 600-calorie lunch from a 1,200-calorie one. Your weight trend over a few weeks is the real check on whether your numbers are right — and it is the number to act on.
It reads from them, and it never writes to them. The app requests read permission only, so nothing in your health record was put there by us and nothing you see in this app can change what another app shows you.
With that permission it reads three things — steps, active energy and sleep — and folds them into what you actually burned today. We ask the platform for its own daily totals rather than adding up individual records, so our figure matches the one you already see in Apple Health or Health Connect even when your phone and your watch both recorded the same walk. When two apps did record it, which one counts is decided by the priority order you control in Apple Health or Health Connect. We have no way to change that, and would not want one.
Reading your health store is part of Premium. The data itself stays on your device — it is used to draw your dashboard, not uploaded to our servers. Privacy Policy.
There are two kinds of photo in the app and they get two different answers, so it is worth being exact about which is which.
Progress photos — the before-and-after gallery — are stored only on your own device. They are never uploaded to our servers, we cannot see them, and they go when you delete the app or clear its data.
Meal photos are not the same. When you scan a plate, that image is sent to Google Gemini to be analysed and is also kept on our servers, so it can appear as the thumbnail on that meal in your diary. It stays for as long as that meal does: deleting the meal deletes the photo, and deleting your account deletes all of them. A photo of a nutrition label is sent to be read and is not kept. No name or email address is attached to what Gemini receives. If you would rather no picture left your phone at all, the barcode scanner sends only the number it read, and manual logging sends no image either. Privacy Policy.
Both, from inside the app, without asking us for permission or waiting on a reply. Open Profile, then Account & Data Ownership.
Export My Data builds a JSON file of what we hold for you and hands it straight to your phone, to keep or move elsewhere. Reset Health Data wipes your logged meals and your workout history while leaving your account intact. Delete Account & All Data does what it says, immediately and irreversibly.
If you can no longer get into the app, email support@inandoutcalories.com from your registered address and we will do it for you within 30 days. How deletion works · Privacy Policy.
It works, and you do not. The calorie side stands entirely on its own: your daily budget is worked out from your own height, weight, age, activity level and goal, and the diary, the weight trend, the weekly summary and the coach all work with no workout ever logged. Plenty of people will use it exactly that way.
If you do train, tell it whether you train at home or in a gym and it seeds a programme to match, or you build your own split from scratch. Either way training adds to what you burn. It is never the price of admission.
No, and nothing nags you into it. Reminders stay off until you switch them on, and the app does not ask for notification permission the moment you open it.
A missed day is a gap in the data, not a verdict on you. Your budget is recalculated from your own numbers regardless, and the thing that tells you whether any of this is working is your weight trend across a few weeks rather than one day's total. Weigh-ins are kept as a dated history for exactly that reason: the line is the thing to read, not this morning's number.
Most trackers only count one side of the equation — what went in. This one counts both. Your logged workouts, plus the steps and active energy read from Apple Health or Health Connect, land in the same daily balance as your food, on top of the resting burn your body spends doing nothing. A hard session stops being a note in a different app and starts moving the number you are trying to hit.
The second difference follows from the first: the food half and the training half are the same app. Logging a set and logging lunch are two tabs, not two subscriptions.
